The Indianola boys basketball team was upset by Urbandale in the substate semifinal contest 43-38 Friday evening as heard live on 94.3 KNIA. The Indians and J-Hawks were stuck in quicksand to start the game, with not much scoring early as the Indians trailed 12-11 after the first quarter, and hit a late three-pointer to take a 19-16 lead at halftime. Indianola took over in the third however, building a lead as high as 11 with several minutes to go in the quarter, but that would be nearly all the offense they would muster for the rest of the contest. The Indians led 34-28 going into the final eight minutes, then scored just four points the entire fourth quarter seeing their season come to a close. Head coach Jeff Ebling tells KNIA Sports unfortunately the Indians hit a cold stretch from outside at the worst time.
“It was just one of those nights. I thought Urbandale did a great job defensively, their zone gave us some troubles. We had some decent looks, but we just couldn’t get the ball to fall. That’s the name of the game, when you are playing against a zone it makes things a lot tougher. We had good looks, and just couldn’t convert. In a five point game, every detail matters, and we just didn’t do enough tonight.”
The Indians end their season with a 17-5 record, and graduate two seniors.
