Central College men’s and women’s track and field wrapped up the American Rivers Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. The Central men tallied 118.5 team points to place fourth. The Dutch women finished in sixth with 45.5 team points.
Kenny Cronin, Will DeHaan, Adam Sylvia, and Noah Jorgenson set a new meet record in the 4×800-meter relay (7 minutes, 50.80 seconds). Jorgenson also finished second in the 800-meter run (1:54.93). The heptathlon podium was swept by Central. Brody Klein won the heptathlon (4,658 points), followed by runner-up finisher Lucas Heitz (4,589 points) and Jaxon Thompson in third place (4,528 points). In the high jump, Drake Lewis and Sam Beatty finished 1-2, with Lewis was named the champion based on a tie breaker. Jaxon Thompson finished eighth in the high jump. Nolan Reynolds, Grant Boyse, Carter Tryon, and JD Elefson finished fifth in the 4×400-meter relay (3:23.90). Reynolds was also sixth in the 400-meter dash in 50.74 seconds.
In the women’s field events, Abby Marr was fourth in the weight throw (52 feet, 11 inches) and Malory Jones tied for sixth in the high jump (5-1.25). The quartet of Lauren Brown, Elsie Thoreson, Abby Gruver, and Abbi Roerdink closed out the meet with a fifth-place finish in the 4×400-meter relay (4:06.23). Brown added an eighth-place finish in the 400-meter run (1:00.70). The 4×800-meter relay squad of Lauren Coon, Alyssa Mayhew, Natalie Patterson and Sara Goodenbour finished fifth (10:10.22) Caroline McMartin was sixth in the mile run (5:09.62) and Megan Johnson was sixth in the 3,000-meter run (10:26.71).
A select group of Central athletes will compete at the Wartburg Qualifier next Friday and Saturday in Waverly.
