The Indianola School Board approved a raise in childcare rates for employees at their most recent meeting, aimed towards helping retain and hire new staff. Superintendent Art Sathoff tells KNIA News the childcare employees will receive a 50 cent raise per hour, and it’s difficult to find staff since the hours are split during the day.
“Our childcare is very flexible with employees, but it is difficult since it is a split shift in the morning and the afternoon. We get high school and Simpson College students as well as on-site directors. The hope is that a little more pay will help with the temporary help so we don’t get faced with the decision of having to close a center because we don’t have staffing. We appreciate being able to offer that wraparound childcare at our elementary schools.
