Spring is in the air, and while warmer trends will continue as the days get longer — even with a cool down expected later this week, snowfall has been near normal this winter.
Between Marion and Warren Counties, approximately 18-26 inches of snow has fallen depending on the location this winter season, with the first measurable flakes recorded in late December and the most recent round coming this past Thursday, when an additional 4-5 inches fell across the region.
At the KNIA/KRLS Studios in Knoxville, close to two feet of snow has been measured, with closer to 25 inches in Pella. Indianola has received closer to 20 inches. This is slightly below normal — south central Iowa usually receives 25-28 inches of snow in a typical winter.
A round of cooler air moves into the region after highs approach 70 today, they will drop to near 40 by Thursday afternoon. A warm up follows, with potential increasing for strong thunderstorms developing Saturday. Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS for the latest weather information.
