Democrats running for statewide and local offices are gathering in Knoxville this weekend. The Marion County Democratic Party will hold a soup luncheon Sunday, March 6 from 1-4 pm at the Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum.
Louise Esveld, Central Committee Chair of the Marion County Democratic Party tells KNIA/KRLS the main goal of the luncheon.
“Our major goal is to get Marion County Democrats out and other folks as well anybody who wants to join us is welcome. We want people to get to know our candidates and what they can do for us.”
Nine Democratic candidates are scheduled to appear for citizens to meet and discuss topics of importance. Candidates include Christina Bohannan, running for U.S. House of Representatives District 1, which includes Marion, Warren, Jasper, and Mahaska counties, Deidre DeJear, running for Iowa Governor, Mike Franken, running for U.S. Senate, Glen Hurst, running for U.S. Senate, Eric Van Lancker, running for Iowa Secretary of State, John Norwood, running for Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Lisa Fleishman, running for Iowa Senate District 11, Joel Miller running for Iowa Secretary of State, and Tyler Stewart, running for Iowa Senate District 19.
