The fifth-ranked Simpson Storm women’s basketball team is hosting the first round of the NCAA Tournament beginning tonight, earning a tournament bid for the 14th time in school history.

The Storm were selected to host a pod of four teams after ending the regular season with a 25-1 overall record and an undefeated run through the American Rivers Conference regular season and tournament.

Athletic Director Marty Bell tells KNIA News hosting the event is a testament to the hard work of the team, and a chance to show off Simpson on the national stage.

“It’s an honor to host. We want to do it right, bring the NCAA to Indianola, Iowa and let everyone see what a great college campus we have and what a great basketball program and tradition we have here in athletics. So it does a lot, it gets your name out there nationally and not just regionally, and I think it’s a good reward the way the NCAA does it for a strong body of work that is completed during the season.”

Wisconsin-Oshkosh will host #20 Wisconsin-Lutheran to begin the day at 5:30pm, with the #5 Storm hosting Gustavus at 7:30pm in the Cowles Fieldhouse. To hear the full interview regarding Simpson hosting the NCAA Tournament, click below.
