The Pella School Board will consider approval of a contract to construct new tennis courts and review the upcoming certified budget at a work session Monday.

Following the Pella City Council’s move to officially donate the northern block of Caldwell Park to the schools, the district will move to accept that donation and consider final approval a contract to demolish the current facility just north of University Street and further center it on the overall block. The new tennis courts are part of $51 million in improvements voters approved in November 2021 and will allow the City of Pella to reconstruct University Street this summer. Additional bids for new water lines and electricity enhancements at the Pella High School Football Stadium are also on the agenda.

The Pella School Board will review the annual certified budget for fiscal year 2023 as well, with a proposed tax rate of $14.605 per $1,000 of valuation–nearly matching the current rate by less than one cent, and schedule a public hearing for its approval. The board will then consider annual raises for teachers following negotiations last week, as well as review who is eligible for $1,000 bonuses issued by the State of Iowa with federal COVID-19 relief. Other staff and administrative salaries will also be considered.

The Pella School Board meeting begins at 4:30 p.m. Monday in the Pella High School library, and can also be viewed online.
