The Simpson Storm women’s basketball team fell to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in the NCAA Tournament Round of 32 Saturday night 64-56 as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.
The game was scheduled to start at 5pm, but eventually began at 6:30 due to the tornado warnings in the area, which cleared the gym just minutes before the opening tip-off.
The Storm got behind early 12-4 in the opening minutes, but fought back to cut the deficit to just two at the end of the first, then built a 29-24 lead with just minutes to go before halftime only to see the Titans end the half on a 16-2 run to take a 40-31 lead into the break.

Simpson would come roaring back again in the third, allowing only eight points for Oshkosh but couldn’t muster enough offense to get back on top but trailed only by three points at 48-45 going into the final 10 minutes. That would be the margin for the majority of the final period, as Simpson fell behind by seven points again only to get back within three at 55-52 with minutes to go, but never got over that hump as they missed multiple outside shots from beyond the arc.

Head coach Brian Niemuth tells KNIA Sports the team fought hard and put themselves in a position to come out on top despite some mismatches, and he credits the seniors, Jenna Taylor and Cameron Kincaid among others, that have been around the program for a long time for being able to stick with the game plan, and their graduation will leave a huge void in the program.

The Storm ended the game shooting just 28% from deep, after leading the nation in three-point shooting for the season, and their season comes to a close with a 26-2 record.
