The Central College softball team ran out of gas as the NFCA Leadoff Classic came to a close yesterday in Columbus, Georgia. The Dutch saw a sixth-inning rally come up just short in a 5-4 loss to defending national champion Virginia Wesleyan before getting dismantled 11-0 in five innings by Emory (GA). Both games were live on KRLS3.

Central fell behind 3-0 against the Marlins, and trailed 5-1 entering the bottom of the sixth, but an Emma Jensen RBI single and Carson Fisk two-run base hit pulled the Dutch within one. Fisk was stranded at second and Central went 1-2-3 in the seventh to end the ballgame.

Emory broke open the final contest of the weekend with six runs in the second inning and four more in the third and ended it early via the run rule.

Central finishes the tournament with a 1-5 record and has the week off before returning to action on March 14th where they’ll play 10 games in six days on a spring break trip to Florida.
