The Indianola City Council approved an extension on application to join the newly created Downtown Square Commission, which are now due on March 30th. Interim City Manager Charlie Dissell tells KNIA News the commission was formed to help the city council regarding rules and guidelines for the square such as sidewalk and street use permits, closure permits, and a facade grant program, and may make recommendations on the allocation of money by the council.
The commission will consist of nine members, with the initial members being appointed to staggered terms of one, two, and three years, eventually leading to three-year terms for all members. To be on the commission, you are required to either own property within the square area, own a business within the square area, or reside within the square area, and you are not required to be a city resident.
