Democratic candidate for Governor, Deidre DeJear held a press conference Wednesday in anticipation of Governor Kim Reynolds announcing her intention to run for another term. DeJear was asked about the recent polling that showed she was down only eight points to Reynolds; her response was that she was pleased to hear that the race was close this early in the election cycle.

KNIA/KRLS News asked her about the Annual Marion County Democrats Soup Lunch Fundraiser she attended this past Sunday.

“Marion County was fired up this weekend. It was so much fun just walking into the room, all of the energy that people had. We left Ames and went to Marion County and then went to Winterset right afterward and that was just as much juice that I needed in the tank going to Winterset. Folks are fired up in Marion County, and you know this was on the heels of this poll coming out and Democrats were walking with their heads up a little bit more, and it was just really encouraging, we saw young people there and we saw our seniors there, it was a mixture of all types of folks that were in that space and it was just good to be there with them and to share some encouraging words.”

DeJear also spoke about the tragedies that have happened throughout this past week in the state and shared her pride in the people of Iowa for coming together and encouraging everyone to hold their loved ones even tighter and to keep being there for each other.
