Former Knoxville Girls basketball Star Maggie Wilkins recently completed her freshman season for Wartburg. Wilkins averaged 6.1 points per game this season for the Knights with a season high of 22 against Loras on February 19th. In an interview heard on the Radio Sports Page in January Wilkins told KNIA/KRLS Sports the college game is a little more competitive but the speed of the game was similar to the style she played in high school.
Wilkins: “The surprising thing was how different the competition and the level of the girls play. It’s a little faster but about the same as when I played in high school.”
Wilkins shot 40% but had one of the highest three point averages at 38%. She led the Knights in free throw shooting, making 84%. Wilkins helped the Knights to the NCAA Division III Tournament last week where they lost to Millikin University 81-68. The Knights finished with a 21-6 record.
