After a very successful 2021 season, Norwalk’s girls’ track and field squad will have 62 athletes out for the 2022 season.
Five individual State qualifiers are returning for the Warriors this season, who are Claire Farrell, Marin Randall, Katie Vandermark, Reagan Levi, and Kenzie Koerselman. Farrell and Randall will be competing at the Drake Relays April 26 after finishing in the top two in their respective events at the IATC Track Meet this past week. Norwalk will have a senior-heavy class this season, with 13 seniors returning to the lineup. The Warriors will also be looking to finish higher than third in the Little Hawkeye Conference meet. Norwalk finished third last season behind Indianola and Dallas Center-Grimes. The 62 athletes that will compete for the Warriors is the largest team coach Charity Campbell has in her 24 years at the helm.
“With 62 girls, we got to have some strong leadership. So, we look to our seniors to do that a lot and this group of seniors have been around for a while. They’ve been leaders, they’ve been in some positions where they’ve had to compete in some pretty stressful situations. So, I look to them to be very strong and supporting our younger athletes and helping them learn the ropes and how they can become the strong athletes and leaders that those seniors are. I think it’s a great group of girls. We’re excited to see what they can do and their leadership and how they can help bring our younger athletes along.”
Norwalk’s first outdoor meet of the 2022 season will be at Simpson College March 22.
