The Indianola Police Department released their annual report this week, detailing the various divisions of the department, training, community outreach, and statistics from 2021. The department received a 5.6% increase in calls compared to 2020 with 12,628, however still below the 13,001 mark set in 2019.

Traffic enforcements were up by 13%, vehicle accidents were up 19%, and 94 burglary cases represented a 15% increase from 2020, sex abuse was up 37%, as well as a significant jump of five arson cases, up from zero in 2019 and two in 2020.

Controlled substance calls saw a significant drop of over 9%, assaults were down 19%, and domestic disturbances also dropped 12.7%.

Calls taken by School Resource Officer Jay Hackett also remained consistent over the past several years, a high of 396 in 2019, 378 in 2020, and 392 in 2021.

The department also issued a significant increase of tickets/warnings compared to 2020 of over 19%, however parking tickets issued dropped by nearly 15%.
