What may be the blink of an eye for some felt like forever for the Pella Police Department School Resource Officer this winter.

JR Pearson has served in the role since January 2021, but in January of this year, he had to leave for eight weeks to head to Mayo Clinic for cancer treatment. The normally private officer opened himself up to the community and received a flow of support that started when the Pella Basketball team supported his battle during Coaches vs. Cancer week.

Pearson appreciates the various roles he’s served in during his more than three decades in law enforcement, but calls his duty as School Resource Officer has “the best assignment I’ve ever had.”

SRO Pearson received a special welcome from students and staff at Pella Christian Grade School before spring break, and has been appreciative of the response of his return from both school communities.
