Central College pushed pitcher Morgan Schaben into some extended duty Sunday, and she responded with a pair of softball wins over Fontbonne University (Mo.) 4-1 and 8-0 in six innings.
After dropping both of Central’s games Saturday, Schaben pitched 12 innings Sunday. She scattered seven hits and a walk while giving up just one run and struck out five in a seven-inning complete game in the opener. In the second game, she pitched five shutout innings, giving up just two hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Emma Neu threw a hitless sixth inning, before the Dutch ended it early with a four-run sixth inning. Central (12-8) was outhit in the opener, 7-6, but grabbed the early lead with a three-run first inning as Megan Stuhr and Lauren Birt had run-scoring hits. Emma Johnson went 2-for-3 in the game and had five hits on the day. Franie Burnett pulled off her second steal of home on the season and Haley Bach swiped her team-leading 18th stolen base. Bach also drew three walks and had a hit on the day as Central outhit Fontbonne 8-2 in the second game.
