The Code Enforcement Department in Knoxville will be conducting inspections on commercial properties to ensure the buildings are meeting the minimum maintenance requirements that went into effect in January. Knoxville Community Service Officer Meredith Clark tells KNIA/KRLS News what requirements they are looking for.

“Some of the requirements we are looking for are that the exterior surfaces of buildings are being maintained in a way that prevents deterioration of any part of the structure. We will be checking that every foundation, window, and exterior door are reasonably weathertight, outside staircases will be inspected to make sure they are constructed to be safe. Aside from structural features, we will be checking for physical hazards such as garbage, rodent infestation, weeds, and that all yards are kept in a clean and sanitary manner.”

The inspections will start on April 4
