(Update: Both Norwalk track meets have been canceled)
Norwalk Girls Soccer Opens With a Win, Boys Soccer Travels to Dowling Catholic
Norwalk’s girls’ soccer squad began the season with a dominating victory over ADM while the boys’ soccer team will be in action to begin their season tonight.
The Warriors’ girls opened their season with a 6-0 victory over the Tigers. Jocelyn Bice’s senior season got off to a dominating start, scoring four goals and dishing out one assist. Marin Randall and Braelyn Clark each got their first goals of the season as well. Clark also had two of the Warriors’ five assists on the night. Norwalk will have a day to practice and prepare for their next match, a Little Hawkeye Conference showdown with Pella Christian.
The Warriors’ boys’ soccer team will open the season tonight as they travel to Dowling Catholic for their first match. Norwalk is coming off finishing 9-8 on the season, including 5-1 in Little Hawkeye Conference play. The Warriors will be returning their top two goal-scorers from last season, Spencer Taylor and Jack Brown. Norwalk also brings back Kegan Trebilcock, who had 66 saves in 2021. Coach Dustin Kralik says that going against Dowling is a good way to start, but hoping that this match is a different result than last year.
“The game was a microcosm of our season. We’re close, we’re competitive, it was 0-0 until late. They found a way to get a goal, I think it was in the last five minutes of the game, they put one away. For us, it’s about being able to continue to defend, but also being able to put the goal on the board.”
This will be the first matchup between the two teams in the Varsity Bound-QuikStats era. The match at Dowling Catholic High School gets underway at 7:30 PM.
Boys’ Track at Waukee Northwest, Girls Track at Iowa City West
Both of Norwalk’s track teams will be back in action for their first outdoor meet of the season today.
The Warriors’ boys will compete at the Waukee Northwest Early Bird Invitational today. Norwalk is coming off having four top-three finishes in events at the Indoor Little Hawkeye Conference meet at Grinnell College Thursday, including three in the top two. The Warriors will compete with the host, Ankeny, Ankeny Centennial, Johnston, and Urbandale at the invite. The meet at Waukee Northwest High School begins at 4:00 PM.
The Warriors’ girls will travel east on Interstate-80 to Iowa City West for their first outdoor meet. Norwalk had Claire Farrell place first in the 60 and 200 meter dashes at the Indoor Little Hawkeye Conference meet at Grinnell. The Warriors also had Marin Randall place second in the long jump, Kady Vandermark second in the shot put, and the shuttle hurdle relay team placed second. The meet at West High School in Iowa City gets underway at 4:30 PM.
Boys Tennis Opens Season Against Ankeny Centennial
Norwalk’s boys’ tennis squad will open up the season for the second consecutive year against state powerhouse Ankeny Centennial.
The Warriors will be bringing back their second-leading match winner from the previous season in Hayden Steele. Norwalk also will be bringing back Adrian Bush, who had three match wins in singles play in 2021. Steele was the only athlete to steal a set from the Jaguars in the last match between the two teams. Ankeny Centennial took the match, 10-1. This will be the fourth match between the two squads, and Norwalk has yet to beat the Jaguars.
The match at Norwalk High School begins at 4:15 PM.
