The Simpson baseball team fell in three close contests to open American Rivers Conference play at Dubuque over the weekend, while the softball team swept Monmouth to conclude their non-conference schedule.

The Storm dropped their first game to Dubuque on Friday in walkoff fashion, then fell twice on Sunday to the Spartans 6-4 and 11-9 in games where the Storm fell behind early and could not claw back into the lead despite rallies in the late innings in both contests. Brady Held crossed the 100 career hit mark on the day, and added a home run later as the Storm fall to 8-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play. They travel to Nebraska Wesleyan for a doubleheader today.

The Storm softball team took down Monmouth 4-1 and 7-1 on Saturday. The Storm fell behind in game one 1-0, but scored two in the top of the third to take a lead they would not relinquish, then did the same in game two after giving up an early run and scoring four in the third and never looked back. Megan Crockett crossed the 100 hit mark in the contests including a home run. The Storm improve to 15-6 on the season and play at Central on Thursday to begin American Rivers Conference play.
