The Pella boys soccer team opened the 2022 season with a 4-0 domination of Winterset Thursday evening. Several scoring chances led to a pair of first half goals, matched in the second half despite the Huskies providing more intense resistance in the final 40 minutes. Goals were scored by Isaac Semini (11″) Teddy Apostolopoulos (25″) and Isaac Kalkwarf (54″, Solomon). An own goal headed in by Winterset off of a Preston Rowe set up earned the 4th mark in the 68th minute. New Pella Goalkeeper Tyler Killoren added 6 saves and a clean sheet defensively. Pella improves to 1-0 and travels to Fairfield Monday.
A switch in venue won’t make the competition any weaker as the Pella boys golf team instead travels to Newton today for their first meet of the new season. Defending 3A champions Gilbert will join Pella Christian, Newton, Dallas Center-Grimes, Earlham, and West Marshall after Saydel cancelled their home invitational. Competition starts at noon today at Westwood Golf Course.
