Norwalk Girls Soccer Wins OT Thriller at Bondurant-Farrar

No. 1 in Class 2A Norwalk keeps their undefeated start to the season alive, defeating No. 11 Bondurant-Farrar in overtime Friday night, 2-1.

The Warriors gave up their first goal of the season in regulation, but persisted and won in the extra session in a matchup of two top-15 teams in the state. The winning goal was scored by sophomore Anna Larson off a corner kick from Jocelyn Bice. The regulation goal was scored by Marin Randall and was assisted by Braelyn Clark. With the win, Norwalk improves to 3-0 on the season and will likely maintain their No. 1 ranking.

Norwalk will take the weekend to practice and prepare for their next match Tuesday night, their first home match of the year against Ames.

Norwalk Girls Golf Gets Season Underway

Norwalk’s girls’ golf squad will be getting their season underway today for their home invitational.

The Warriors will have a lot of new faces on their roster this season, with most of their top golfers from last year graduated. Norwalk will be bringing back Emily Juergens and Nikko Higgins, who had nine-hole averages of 52 and 54, respectively. The Warriors finished second in last year’s meet behind Dallas Center-Grimes. Norwalk will be competing this year with Bondurant-Farrar, Carlisle, Des Moines East and Des Moines Lincoln. Coach Steve Wermerskirchen tella KNIA Sports that he believes his kids will be comfortable opening the season at home.

“I think kids will feel comfortable. That’s the big thing for us. They’ve seen the course, they’ve played the course, and it’s nine holes. I think that’s a huge advantage as far as the first meet. I think that’s the biggest thing, it’s just familiarity.”

The meet at Willow Creek Golf Course in Norwalk begins at 8:30 AM.
