A former Pleasantville Police officer has reached plea agreements in Marion and Warren counties. 24-year-old Alec Veatch was arrested and charged with assault with intent to commit sexual abuse-serious injury, willful injury causing serious injury, enticing a minor under 16 for a sexual purpose, and lascivious acts with a minor in Marion county, and sexual abuse third degree, enticing a minor under 16 for a sexual purpose, and lascivious acts with a minor, in Warren County. According to court documents, Veatch reached a plea agreement for the Marion County charges, where he pleaded guilty to assault with intent to commit sexual abuse which is an aggravated misdemeanor. In Warren County, he pleaded guilty to willful injury causing bodily injury, a class D felony. Veatch will serve 14 days in county jail and will be required to pay an $855 fine, all court costs, and a 15% surcharge. Veatch will also have a special 10-year sentence that includes complying with all sex offender registry requirements, paying a $250 civil penalty for the registry, and will have to submit a DNA specimen. It has also been recommended that Veatch receive a five-year suspended prison sentence, and be placed on supervised probation to the Department of Correctional Services. Veatch will be fined $1,025 and will be required to complete the Sex Offender Treatment Program run by the Fifth Judicial District Department of Correctional Services. All charges stem from two incidents with a minor. The plea agreements must be approved by a judge and sentencing in the case will be on May 12 at 9:30 am.
Both Warren and Marion County cases were prosecuted by the Warren County Attorney’s Office, due to Veatch being a former employee of a police department in Marion County. The Marion County Attorney’s Office had no input regarding the charges levied against Veatch nor any input into any plea negotiations or resolution of this case. The Warren County Attorney’s Office worked closely with the victim and the victim’s family in crafting an appropriate agreement in these cases.
