The Knoxville Golf Squads battled a cold rainy day at the Pleasantville Country Club and the boys came away with a triangular win while the girls finished 3rd. The boys shot a 164 led by Evan Smith’s 38 tying him for medallist honors. George Gilbert and Carson Uitermarkt both shot 41s. Coach Barry Smith tells KNIA/KRLS Sports the guys have big goals this season, but he is always reminding them that they will have to earn it if they want to get to where they want to be.
Smith: “We have to ensure our mind is in the right place and nothing will be given to us. We need to ensure that everytime we’re on the course whether it’s practice or playing we need to have quality practice and play time.”
The girls also battled tough conditions and shot a 266 for 3rd place behind Clarke and Carlisle. Faith Roozeboom was 5th overall to lead Knoxville with a 52. The Panther boys will be in action Thursday at the Pella Invitational. On the Turf at Randy Wilson Track, the Knoxville Boys Soccer Squad ran into class 2A State Runner-Up Bondurant-Farrar and fell 10-0. The BlueJays struck early and often in the first half to build up a 7-0 halftime lead and added three goals in the 2nd half to invoke the ten-goal mercy rule. Knoxville is 0-3 on the season and heads to Albia on Thursday.
