Pella swept the Indianola soccer teams in a pair of conference matches to open the league season Tuesday; the Dutch boys earned a 1-0 victory, while the #12 Pella girls won on the road 2-1.
At home, the Dutch struck in the first few minutes with Levi Van Dusseldorp, and narrowly missed several strong opportunities after to add to that lead. The Dutch defense held firm and made it difficult for Indianola to score, although they had multiple chances at the net they couldn’t convert on late, either. Pella’s boys improve to 3-0 and 1-0 in conference play. They next compete Saturday at Waterloo Columbus.
On the road, the #12 Dutch were led by two more goals from Abby Warner — the first of which was followed up nearly immediately by Indianola, and the last came in the final minutes of regulation. Warner has converted 14 of the team’s 18 goals. Haley Van Houweling added 12 saves to her ledger. Pella’s girls are now 4-0 and 1-0 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. They are at home Thursday vs. #11 Bondurant-Farrar.
In a field loaded with 4A competition for the second consecutive meet, the Pella girls track and field team finished in a tie for 3rd in seven scored events at Waukee Northwest Tuesday. Pella earned a win and season best (50.54 seconds) from the 4×100 relay (Delanie Reynolds, Calla Kerndt, Marissa Hackman, Emily McMartin) and a 2nd place finish from the 4×200 relay with the same four. Reynolds also won the 100 meter dash (13.65 seconds). Pella is scheduled for a meet Thursday in Oskaloosa. Click here for full results.
