The Knoxville Police Department has received reports of several scams in the community. Knoxville Police Officer Kyle Keller spoke with KNIA/KRLS News about some of the scams.

“Recently during tax time IRS scams. People will call claiming they are from the IRS and that they need your personal information or they need you to send them money to pay for a difference on your taxes or something like that. “

Keller talks about another scam that has been reported.

“Just in our area, we have seen law enforcement scams. Someone will call claiming they are with a law enforcement agency and say they have a warrant for your arrest or they have a family member in jail that needs to be bailed out.”

Keller tells us what we should do if we receive a call like that.

“No law enforcement agency is going to call you like that. You need to question that person if they are claiming to be a relative in jail.”
