The Pella Police Department has a new member on the force.

Officer Hunter Boertje says following a successful fundraising campaign that exceeded expectations last year and several weeks of training this winter, Ellie, the new K-9 unit, started her duties this week.

Boertje says her work includes tracking people and narcotics assistance on the law enforcement side, and working as an educational resource for all residents.
