The Indiana Township Fire Department will hold its annual Firemen’s Breakfast Saturday, April 9 from 6 am to 11 am. Assistant Fire Chief Jake Sharp spoke with KNIA/KRLS News about the breakfast.

“The Breakfast is going to be about trying to raise some money to recoup the cost of starting a new ambulance service. We felt there was a need, particularly in the southern part of the county, to be able to help out surrounding communities. This ambulance will help people in Bussey, Columbia, or wherever it might be. People can come out and support us even if you don’t live in our township. There are times we go outside of our township to help other departments.”

Fire Chief Steven Watson talks about how the community’s support at events like this helps out the department.

“It helps us out a lot and takes the pressure off of our budget every single year. There are things that people don’t think about like ambulances, side by side, and multiple things that make our job easier and allow us to provide a better service to the community that we wouldn’t be able to purchase. Each of the trucks that were donated by community members was four to six thousand dollars that were split with the township. It’s the same with the ambulance, it was part of our agreement we purchased the ambulance, and we outfitted it and fixed anything that needed to be fixed. All of that came from biscuits and gravy money, car show money, and gun raffle money.”

The breakfast will be at the Indiana Township Fire Station from 6:00 a.m until 11:00.
