Pella Christian had high expectations for this spring track and field season, but they have yet to be able to truly show their full potential. The weather has canceled three of the Eagles first five meets, with a fourth meet being canceled just 17 events in. The windy and soggy conditions have forced Eagles Head Coach Keith Anderson and his assistants to get creative.
“Kids want to compete. They want to know that the practice that they are putting in, that they actually get to put that to good use. Weather has kept us from being on the track as much as we’d like, so we have had some practices where we’ve been inside in our hallways. Occasionally we get to use our gym, but it’s just not the same. I have a couple of great coaches that I can bounce some ideas off of. And they’re good about coming up with some creative things that we can do to still get a good workout in, still get some sweat going, but to just to kind of change some things up because track is one of those sports where you need to be on the track, and you just can’t replicate some of those things indoors.”
The next scheduled track meet for the Eagles is on Tuesday, when they host the Pella Christian Invitational.
