Central College is offering a camp to teach area youth more about how data and sports connect. A four-day program offers students currently in grades 7-10 the chance to develop math, stats and data skills through sports-related contexts.
Campers will engage in data collection with various athletic equipment and modern technology. They will also be focused on the problem-solving process in order to work on open-ended projects. Projects might possibly include creating a hopefully-perfect March Madness bracket, maximizing talent on a new Major League Soccer franchise, and settling an argument about the GOAT (Greatest of All Time) in their chosen sport. The program is organized and directed by Professor of Mathematics Russ Goodman.
The camp is scheduled for July 25 – 28, 2022 and runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, and the cost is $150.
