The Pleasantville Christian Church will hold its first big service in its new building since a fire destroyed the old church building on March 30, 2020. Pastor Don Naftz spoke with KNIA/KRLS News about what this means to him and the congregation.
“It means a lot, the congregation was started in 1849 and when the church burnt down it was 120 years old. When it burnt down we didn’t know what was going to happen if we were going to rebuild or not. The pandemic had just started and at the time of the fire we were all isolated in our homes because of the lockdown at the time and we just didn’t know. The congregation got together and voted once we could and decided to rebuild. The process has taken a little over two years. New life is what is symbolic to us and it just so happens we are going to have our first service on Easter Sunday. Easter’s all about new life, resurrection, hope, god’s grace, god’s mercy, and god’s compassion.”
The service will begin at 10:00 am. The church is located at 308 W. Dallas Street in Pleasantville
