Walker Whalen threw the fourth best discus throw in Iowa of all time Saturday, the Indianola boys soccer team fell twice in a competitive tournament at the Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines Saturday, while the girls track team sent a squad to the Eastern Iowa Track and Field Festival.
Walker Whalen was the lone Indian to compete for the Indianola boys at the Eastern Iowa Track and Field Festival, throwing a personal best 202-10 and coming close to the best Iowa High School Discus Throw of all time, breaking his own school record that he set Friday afternoon.
The Indianola girls track team also sent athletes to compete in Iowa City. Lauren Blake finished fourth in the High Jump, the 4×200 relay team placed third, and the sprint medley relay team placed third, while Emily Naughton placed fifth in the 800m and 1500m, Josie McGraw placed fifth in the 100m Hurdles, Gracie Foster placed fifth in the 3000m, Julie Coffey placed fifth in the shot put.
The Indians boys fell to Bondurant-Farrar in game one 5-0, then dropped a close match against Des Moines Christian in the consolation round 2-1. Aidan Boggs scored the lone goal on the day for the Indians. Head coach Heath Weeks tells KNIA Sports the Indians have a run of really tough teams coming up, and the lessons learned from these games will have to power the Indians at the end of the season. Indianola falls to 2-7 on the season, and will travel to Dallas Center-Grimes for a Little Hawkeye Conference matchup on Tuesday.
