The Knoxville Boys Soccer Squad defeated PCM 3-1 on Monday night. The Panthers and Mustangs had early chances but were unable to cash in as both teams played well defensively for the first 20 minutes of the 1st half. Knoxville finally got on the board with 15:34 left in the 1st half on an Ezra Schmidt score to make it 1-0. PCM’s Carson Vandelune got the equalizer with 7:51 left in the first half to force a one-all tie at the break. Knoxville came out and put pressure on PCM early and often in the 2nd half and it finally paid off when Luka DeJong off a corner kick and resulting scrum at the net scored to make it 2-1 with 24:40 left and Emmett Schmidt put the game clincher in with 8:50 remaining. Schmidt tells KNIA/KRLS Sports once they got momentum after the first score, Knoxville was able to pressure PCM and make it more difficult for the Mustangs.

Schmidt: “Definitely getting momentum is huge for our team, we’re really fueled by that and we just need to get that first score to get that momentum.”

Hear from Schmidt and teammates Luka Dejong and A.J. Jackson on Wednesday’s Radio Sports Page on KNIA/KRLS at 6:00 or Thursday at 10:00. The Knoxville Girls Soccer Squad fell to Central Iowa United on Monday 1-0. Coach Matt Ritchhart tells KNIA/KRLS Sports his team needs to finish better. The boys will travel to Des Moines Christian tonight while the girls return home to play Fairfield at Randy Wilson Track.
