Trinity Health and Common Spirit Health announced on Tuesday that they have signed an agreement for Trinity Health to acquire all facilities and assets of MercyOne, which is a regional health system based in Iowa. MercyOne has been working under a joint agreement with Trinity Health and Common Spirit since 1998 and after months of analysis, it was decided the best path for MercyOne and the communities it serves is to have one parent company. Trinity Health is a national health system spanning 25 states and will bring unified strategies to MercyOne’s care sites, including one set of system services. As an example, MercyOne would transition to Trinity Health’s common platform which would allow patients to manage their care across all of MercyOne’s services and facilities. MercyOne serves more than 3.3 million patients each year across its 16 medical centers, 27 affiliate organizations, and more than 420 care sites, including Knoxville.
The transaction is expected to be completed in the summer of this year.
