All eight varsity teams were in action for Pella High School Tuesday with a lot of success to go around.
Pella Boys, Girls Track Teams Dominate at Ottuwma Meet
In what was essentially a makeup meet, the track and field teams of Pella had several strong performances at the Don Newell Track and Field Classic.
The Dutch boys continued putting together some of their stronger events. Reece Thoreson made his return to the 2021 state-runner up shuttle hurdle relay, who turned in a season best with Nolan Clayberg, Gage Huyser, and Luke Fairchild (1:01.36). Clayberg ran 14.94 to win the Shuttle Hurdles over teammate Huyser as well, as both are now in the top four of Class 3A of the event. Chase Lauman and Josiah Wittenberg swept both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs.
Pella Girls Head Coach Dak Rasmussen says they had 12 season best performances and won 8 events on the evening. Jacie Trine and Emily McMartin both brought home 3 gold medals. Macy Schroeder, Abbey Bogaards, and Maddie Schmitz also ran really well according to Rasmussen, turning in their best times of the year in multiple events. Pella Boys Lead Pack after Two Days of Little Hawkeye Conference 54-Hole Meet
After day two of the three-day Little Hawkeye Conference golf meet, Pella’s boys hold a narrow lead over the field. The Dutch stand at 655 and have a three shot lead over DCG. In Newton, Pella shot 335 at Westwood Golf Course, led by a 77 from Will Simpson–who earned the one-day medalist honor. Ayden Gordon posted an 83. The final day of the three day conference regular season championship will be held on Tuesday, May 3rd at Bos Landen. Simpson and Gordon will be featured on the KNIA/KRLS Radio Sports Page, airing every Wednesday at 6 p.m. and Thursday at 10 a.m. on 92.1 KRLS.

Pella Boys, Girls Tennis Teams Dominate Grinnell
The ranked tennis teams of Pella High School swept Grinnell, with the #2 boys winning 10-1 over the #10 Tigers, while the #3 girls didn’t drop a single set in an 11-0 road victory.
Pella Girls Head Coach Josh McCollam says Emily Blom and Alloree Else both earned singles victories without dropping a game, winning their matches 6-0, 6-0. Bryn Higginbotham made her varsity debut, playing at #5 doubles with Kennedy Van Vark, where he says they were victorious behind some nice serves and solid net play.
The Dutch boys only dropped the #5 doubles pairing and otherwise handled a strong foe at Caldwell Park. Pella’s tennis teams return to action Thursday vs. Oskaloosa — with the boys at home and girls on the road.

Pella Girls Soccer Surges Past Newton, Boys Upset on the Road
The #9 in 2A Pella girls soccer team was able to bounce back after losing to three consecutive ranked foes while the #2 in 2A boys were stunned on the road in a pair of matches vs. Newton Tuesday evening. The Dutch girls won 4-0 while the Pella boys fell 5-3 to the Cardinals. At home, Pella scored three goals in the final 20 minutes of the first half to take full control, while the Dutch fell behind 4-1 at the half on the road match for the boys. Isaac Semini scored three times in a comeback effort. The Pella girls improve to 6-3, the Dutch boys fall to 8-1, and both return to action Thursday on the road as the Dutch girls head to North Polk and boys go to Ottumwa.

Pella Girls Golf Team Can’t Solve Norwalk Course in Triangular
The Pella Girls Golf team played in a Triangular versus Norwalk and DCG on Tuesday night, placed 3rd with a 229 compared to the Warriors’ 214 and the Mustangs’ 194. Leading scorers for the Dutch were: Reagan VanWyk, Karsyn Lyons and Ellie Wogen (57) and Olivia Hood(58).
