The Central College softball team competed in an American Rivers Conference doubleheader for the second straight day on Tuesday. After making the long rainy drive from Lincoln, Nebraska to Storm Lake, the Dutch suffered another sweep to Buena Vista University, falling to the Beavers 17-13 and 4-2.

Central used four pitchers in the opener but couldn’t find an answer even after roaring back from a 10-5 sixth-inning deficit to tie it at 10-10. Buena Vista responded in a big way, putting up seven runs in the bottom of the inning. Still, Central scratched out three more runs in the seventh before the Beavers closed it out. Pitcher Morgan Schaben yielded 11 runs on 11 hits with four walks in three innings. Sydni Huisman only threw 0.1 innings but was saddled with the loss after giving up three runs on two hits and a walk. Huisman then went the distance in the second game, giving up four runs on six hits and four walks over six innings. Central cranked out 16 hits in the opener including four by Haley Bach.  Emma Johnson, Franie Burnett, Lauren Birt and Carson Fisk each had two hits and Megan Stuhr had a three-run double to fuel Central’s sixth-inning comeback. In the nightcap, the Dutch mustered just four hits and committed three errors. The big difference was again the long ball as Buena Vista clubbed six home runs.

In just two day and four games, the Dutch have fallen from having a share of first place in the American Rivers Conference to sixth place. Central is slated to play its third league doubleheader in five days Saturday, traveling to Decorah to take on Luther College at 1 p.m. The games Saturday can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS with Trevor Castle on the call.
