Norwalk Girls Golf Places Seventh at Oskaloosa

 

Norwalk’s girls’ golf squad placed seventh at Edmundson Golf Course in Oskaloosa Thursday night.

 

The Warriors finished with a team score of 445 in an invitational of 13 teams, including Knoxville, Pella, and PCM. Norwalk’s low golfer of the meet was Emily Juergens with a score of 101. The Warriors had their lowest finish of the season, but still sit at 17-7 on the season after the invitational.

 

Norwalk will be back in action for a Little Hawkeye Conference Triangular Wednesday against Indianola and Oskaloosa.

 

Norwalk Boys and Girls Tennis Dominate Newton

 

Both of Norwalk’s tennis squads came away with dominating victories over Little Hawkeye Conference foe Newton Thursday. 

 

Both the Warriors’ boys and girls defeated Newton, 10-1. The win for Norwalk’s boys for their first match win of the 2022 season. Both squads finished with five singles matches and five doubles matches to take home the win on senior day. Norwalk’s boys now stand at 1-2 on the season and 1-1 in Little Hawkeye Conference play. The Warriors’ girls improve their record to 3-0 and 2-0 in Little Hawkeye Conference play.

 

Both squads will be back in action for meets today. The Warriors’ boys will compete at the Dennis Hoefle Tennis Invite in Ankeny at 10:00 AM. The Warriors’ girls will travel north to Waukee Northwest for a dual match. The match begins at 2:00 PM.

 

Norwalk Boys Place 4th at Waukee, Girls 4th at Indianola

 

Both of Norwalk’s track and field squads came away with fourth-place finishes in their meets Thursday.

 

The Warriors’ boys finished with 101 team points at the Waukee Boys Invite, one point ahead of fifth-place Indianola and two points behind third-place Ankeny Centennial. Norwalk had two first-place finishes in events at the meet. Grant Miller placed first in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.41 seconds. The other first-place finish came in the 4×400 meter relay run by Ben Hanson, Jacey Hutson, Dillon Ranck, and Brody Lucas. A school record was also set as the shuttle hurdle relay team of Miller, Braeden Carlson, Daniel Webster, and Hunter Benson. The relay squad set the record finishing with a time of 1:03.33 seconds.

 

The Warriors’ girls finished with 97 team points at the Ron Werling Relays in Indianola, 24 behind third-place Indianola and 37 ahead of fifth-place Ottumwa. Norwalk had four first-place finishes in the meet. Kady Vandermark had two first-place finishes in events. She finished with a 118’4” throw in discus. Vandermark also finished with a throw of 39’4” in the shot put. Raegan Levi finished first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.52 seconds. The final first-place finish came in the 800 sprint medley relay run by Levi, Claire Farrell, Marin Randall, and McKenzie Koerselman. They finished with a time of 1:48. 

 

Norwalk’s girls will be back in action Monday for a meet at Winterset, while the boys will take the track Tuesday at Carlisle.

 

 

Norwalk Girls Shut Out Urbandale, Boys Lose at Johnston

 

Norwalk’s girls’ soccer squad continued their undefeated start to the season against Urbandale while the boys lost on the road to Johnston.

 

The No. 1 in Class 2A Warriors’ girls improved their record to 9-0 with a 3-0 shutout over the J-Hawks Thursday. Norwalk struck first early with a goal 31 seconds in scored by Marin Randall. Jocelyn Bice added a second goal in the first half to make it a 2-0 game at halftime. Bice added a second goal in the second half to provide insurance for the Warriors. Coach Andrew Messer says that he is happy with his team’s mindset after coming away victorious.

 

“It’s getting halfway through the season. We’re dealing with a few injuries, nothing major. Putting a good mindset in and coming out on top was key. This is the time of the season where people start falling off a little bit and I think that our drive is just as high as it has been from the beginning.”

 

The Warriors’ boys lost to No. 7 in Class 3A Johnston on the road 4-1. Norwalk was able to make it a scoreless match until halftime, but were unable to stop the Dragons’ attack. With the loss, Norwalk drops to 3-6 on the season with a 2-1 record in Little Hawkeye Conference play.

 

Norwalk’s boys will be back in action for their next match Monday at Des Moines Valley, while the girls will be back Tuesday at Newton.
