For the second time this week, all eight varsity teams for Pella were in action on the same night.

Pella Track and Field Teams Improving at Drake Relays Deadline
While they were at separate sites, the Pella boys and girls track and field teams faced strong fields of competition as the Dutch boys traveled to Waukee and the girls were at Newton Thursday.

Pella won the Class B competition with 181.5 team points while racing against some strong 4A teams, including Norwalk and Indianola. The Dutch had first place finishes from:
110 Hurdles – Gage Huyser (15.33)
400 Meter Dash – Reece Thoreson (52.74)
800 Meter Run – Chase Lauman (1:58.39)
Discus – Brandon Fischer (147-11 ft/in)
Long Jump – Parker Elder (21 ft)

Boys 4×110 Meter Shuttle Hurdle Class B – 1:00.42; Nolan Clayberg, Reece Thoreson, Luke Fairchild, Gage Huyser

At Newton, Pella Head Coach Dak Rasmussen says Emily McMartin, Delanie Reynolds, and Raegan Snieder all ran well as the girls placed 3rd at the meet. A couple of girls that had breakout nights were Macy Schroeder (4×800, 800, 4×400) and Mara Schiebout (4×200, 4×400). Rasmussen says it looks like Pella’s Drake Qualifiers will be the 4×100 and 4×200, who both broke the Blue Standard.

Dutch Tennis Teams Dominate Oskaloosa
The #2 Pella boys tennis team was without some of their top players and swept Oskaloosa 11-0, while the #3 girls continued their undefeated start 9-2 in Osky Thursday. Cashen Thompson, Ben Van Gorp, Hayden Rozenboom, Brodie Ferrell, Bodie Peters, and Jordan Shaffer all won in singles action for the Dutch boys on a night where the green and white didn’t drop a set. That group, as well as Cameron Rowe/Beau Bush, Nile Roozeboom, Ty Higginbotham, and Ryan Sales, all won in doubles action as well. Pella hosts its annual invitational Saturday morning at Caldwell Park.

Pella’s girls had some tough competition on the road. Emily Blom, Alloree Else, and Allie Singer all moved to 5-0 on the season in singles with Lily VanDusseldorp reaching 4-0 and Willa Kelpe improving her singles record to 2-1. Amelia Poe was the lone singles loss in a tight one that had set tiebreakers in both sets. But, Head Coach Josh McCollam she was on the opposite end of a tight match in doubles with partner Allie Singer. After losing the first set in a tiebreak, Poe and Singer came back to win the second set to force a match tiebreak. Amelia and Allie fought off match point six times in the breaker and came out with the victory 19-17.


Pella Boys Golfers Dual Gilbert, Knoxville
A triangular of some of the state’s best boys golfers was held at Bos Landen Thursday. Gilbert won with a 306 in 18 holes, followed by Pella’s 320 and Knoxville at 336. Pella was led by a 71 from Will Simpson, good for runner-up among individuals, with Ayden Gordon (79), Cade McGinley (82), and Thomas Tangen (88) rounding out the Dutch scorecard. Pella’s boys golfers next head to West Delaware Saturday morning.

Pella Girls Golf 3rd in 12-Team Osky Invitational
The Dutch Girls Golf Team placed 3rd out of 12 teams on Thursday at the Oskaloosa Invitational with a 414. Pella was led by Reagan VanWyk who carded a 94, placing 7th individually. Other scorers for the Dutch were Ellie Wogen (104), Olivia Hood (106), and Karsyn Lyons (110). Pella hosts Grinnell Tuesday at home.

Pella Boys Soccer Bounces Back on Road
#2 in 2A Pella traveled to Ottumwa Thursday night and won 3-0. The Dutch were up 1-0 at halftime, and extended their lead to finish the match against the Bulldogs. Logan Solomon, Isaac Kalkwarf, and Levi VanDusseldorp scored for Pella. The 8-1 Dutch return to action at home Tuesday vs. Oskaloosa.

Pella Girls Soccer Tripped Up by Another Ranked Foe
The #11 in 2A Pella girls soccer team found another difficult evening against a ranked foe, falling 4-0 to #8 North Polk. All four of the Dutch losses have come to teams ranked in the top 15 in Class 2A. Pella falls to 5-4 and next will host #2 in 1A Des Moines Christian Monday at the Pella Sports Complex.
