Weather permitting, the Pella Christian boys golf squad will be in action today at the Washington Invitational.

The Eagles recently have been led in competition by freshman Eliot Menninga. He shot a season low 75 at the Pella Dutch Master Invitational last week, and a 80 that netted him an individual third place finish at the second day of the Little Hawkeye Conference Regular Season Meets on Tuesday. Menninga’s performances came on the heels of sophomore Isaiah Breems tying Pella Christian’s best mark from a season ago with a 79. With the exceptional play of his squad this spring, Eagles Head Coach Joel Rietema tells KRLS Sports that the expectations for the team have become more relaxed.

“You know, I think there are some teams that they’re expected to do things and we’re kind of in the role of let’s just do the best we can. And, we’ve already already achieved some pretty significant things. I would expect scores to go lower and lower, and that would be really great to see and we’d have a lot of fun with that, but either way you know we’re just having a great time playing golf.”

The Washington Invitational begins today at 9 a.m. at the Washington Golf and Country Club.
