April 30th is National Independent Bookstore Day, held each year on the last Saturday in April to celebrate the uniqueness of independent bookstores across the country. Pageturners Bookstore in Indianola is partnering with other stores in the area to invite readers to visit all stores with their “bookstore passport,” and Pageturners owner Kathy Magruder tells KNIA News there is an opportunity to not only find some great books, but also win prizes.
“You can come into any one of the six stores, pick up your passport, then from May 1st to May 31st you can go into any one of the stores, we’ll punch your passport with a stamp, and that day you’ll receive 15% off any purchase. If you manage to get to all six stores and get a stamp, you can turn your passport in for a chance to win a grand prize, merchandise from all six stores.”
The other stores participating include:
Beaverdale Books – Des Moines
Dog-Eared Books – Ames
Raccoon River Press – West Des Moines
Reading in Public Bookstore + Cafe – West Des Moines
Storyhouse Bookpub – Des Moines
