Five of Knoxville sports squads were playing on Monday night. The Girls Golf Squad traveled to Chariton and placed 3rd out of five with Faith Roozeboom earning medalist honors with an 89. Both Panther tennis squads played at separate venues as the girls went on the road and picked up an 8-1 victory over Centerville. The Panthers won 5/6 singles matches to clinch the meet early. Winning in singles play were: Olivia Maasdam, Janie Maasdam, Kate Schnieder, Riley Dailey, and Ellie Ensor. The Panthers swept the doubles matches. The Knoxville Boys Tennis Squad fell to Grinnell 9-0. On the soccer pitches the girls handled Chariton 4-0. Janae Baker scored a hat trick while Hanna Linsley got their other goal for Knoxville. The boys fell to Newton 6-1. Andrew Jackson scored the only goal for the Panthers off an assist from Emmett Schmidt. Coach Dylan Mick tells KNIA/KRLS Sports playing a tough non-conference schedule the players learn a little about themselves regardless of the outcome.
Mick: “Utilizing as much as learning experiences go. We may see and Oskaloosa or Carlisle down the road in the playoffs and learning from those games and what to improve on.”
The boys come back to host Albia tonight at Randy Wilson Track.
