The Knoxville School District was recognized recently for being one of the first schools to utilize a program with DMACC. Knoxville High School Counselor Carolyn Jones spoke with KNIA/KRLS News about the program and the position created by it.
“We were invited to a luncheon at DMACC along with all of the College and Career Transition Counselors, which is a new position created last year and is a joint endeavor between DMACC and seven regional schools. There are 13 College and Career Transition Counselors and Knoxville was one of the first schools to jump on board and we are happy to have Chanae Fitzgerald on board as she is a shared position between Knoxville, PCM, and DMACC.”
Fitzgerald spoke about her position and how she helps students.
“I work with juniors and seniors making sure they have a plan and know what resources are available to them as they decide if they want to go to college, if they want to work, and what would be the best fit for them.”
The program and position is a part of a state initiative to get more students to college or tech schools and is partially funded by a state grant. For more on the College and Career Transition Counselor Position tune in to Thursday’s Let’s Talk Knoxville
