The Indianola Fire Department and Indianola Noon Lions are partnering for the annual Spring Pancake Breakfast this Saturday. Indianola firefighters Sean Lunde and Jill Burrell tell KNIA News the pancake breakfast will raise money for the department’s fourth LUCAS Chest Compression device, which will provide one in each of the four ambulances the department has. The firefighters also said the device will help the department save lives.
“One thing is it frees up our hands to be doing something else, whether it’s starting an IV or continuing bag valve, which is how we provide oxygen in the field, or calling the hospital to let them know what we have. Also, it’s (CPR) very tiring, and we have a 25-30 minute drive to the hospital, so letting the machine take over those compressions helps out immensely.”
“The biggest thing is it takes less personnel. When you are doing compressions you get really tired so you have to switch off with other people, so that requires more people, and sometimes we don’t have the people to do it. So with the LUCAS device, it provides great compressions and we don’t get tired.”
The breakfast will be Saturday from 7-11am at the Fire Station, with a free will donation accepted.
