A pair of Pella seniors who have high hopes for their remaining time in green and white won’t go far to continue competing on the oval in college.

Hurdling specialist Gage Huyser and sprinter Emily McMartin have both committed to Central College to race for the Dutch.

Huyser and McMartin have continued their incredible careers as Drake Relays qualifiers earlier this month and both aim to make their return to the state meet in less than two weeks.

Gage has the 5th fastest 110 Meter Hurdle time in Class 3A (14.87) and 3rd fastest 400 meter hurdle race (55.5) in 2022. He placed in both events at the 3A state meet in 2021. He’s also the anchor of the fastest shuttle hurdle relay in the class this season (1:00.42).

Emily is seeking her 3rd trip in three spring seasons to Drake Stadium. McMartin has run the 7th fastest 100 meter dash time in 3A this season (12.72) and was part of the Blue Standard 4×100 and 4×200 meter relays.

Both seniors have two guaranteed meets remaining in their incredible careers — the first of which will be the Pella Home Invitational Monday, and then Thursday at the Class 3A District meet in Bondurant.
