For the first time all spring, Mother Nature appears to be smiling on the Knoxville Raceway as highs in the 70s with low winds and little to no chance of rain is in the forecast for sprint car racing. Last week was the first full night of racing and defending 360 champion Clint Garner finished 2nd behind Terry McCarl. Garner tells KNIA/KRLS Sports winning the track title is all about qualifying well, something he did last week.
Garner: “To gain points you have to out qualify them and have a good night, you don’t have to win, just have a good night and be quick time. We are doing that to stay in the points run and the points reward qualifying so that’s what we’re working on.”
Garner did just that timing in with quick time, finishing 2nd in his heat and finishing 2nd in the A-Main. Garner will come into tonight’s action as the 360 points leader, 19 ahead of McCarl. Justin Henderson has a one point lead over Matt Juhl but it looks like the 410s will again have to deal with last week’s run away winner Brian Brown, who was scheduled to race at Eldora this weekend, but when that event got canceled, Brown announced he would run this week at Knoxville. Expect to see a few visitors due to several tracks being forced to cancel race nights because of wet grounds. Last night, several drivers including Reigning All-Star Champion Tyler Courtney and fellow All-Stars driver Cory Eliason and others were doing hot laps at the raceway.
