Norwalk Boys Tennis Competes in District Play at Marshalltown

 

Norwalk’s boys’ tennis squad competed in district play at Marshalltown Monday.

 

The Warriors got three match victories in district play. Norwalk got two singles victories from Cameron Nguyen and Hayden Steele in straight sets. The Warriors got a doubles’ victory for Ian Bragg and Kaden Tomkins. Norwalk had no state qualifiers in this meet.

 

This concludes Norwalk’s boys’ tennis season.

 

Norwalk Boys Golf 3rd, Girls Golf 5th in Conference Meets

 

Both of Norwalk’s golf squads came away with top-five finishes in their Little Hawkeye Conference meets Monday.

 

The Warriors’ boys placed third in their meet at Willow Creek Golf Course. Norwalk finished with a team score of 310, just six strokes behind first-place Pella. The Warriors had five golfers finish all-conference. The low golfers for the Warriors were Braden Nicholson and Nathan Lesley, each with 77. Ryan Jermier and Grady Sigrist each finished with 78s. Cael Sherwood finished third with a score of 80. Nicholson and Lesley tied for fifth overall, while Jermier and Sigrist tied for ninth. Sherwood finished 11th.

 

The Warriors’ girls placed fifth in their meet at the Pella Golf and Country Club. Norwalk finished with a team score of 443, 65 strokes behind first-place Newton. Emily Juergens finished all-conference with a score of 100. Juergens’ score was good enough to be tied for ninth overall with Karsyn Lyons of Pella. Ruby Hoch placed second on the Warriors with a score of 114.

 

Norwalk’s girls will be back in action for an invite at Newton on Thursday.

 

Norwalk Girls Tennis End Season With Victory

 

Norwalk’s girls’ tennis squad completed their regular season with a 10-1 victory over Little Hawkeye Conference foe Oskaloosa.

 

The Warriors will finish the regular season with a 7-2 record, including a 4-1 record against Little Hawkeye Conference opponents. Norwalk’s lone loss came in their first doubles match of the afternoon. Five of Norwalk’s six singles wins came in straight sets. Three of Norwalk’s four doubles wins came in straight sets.

 

Norwalk has a first-round bye in their bracket for the postseason. They will play the winner of Ottumwa and Waukee Northwest on the 17th.

 

Norwalk Boys Track Places 2nd at Pella

 

Norwalk’s boys’ track and field squad finished their regular season with a second-place finish in the Pella Coed Invitational Monday night.

 

The Warriors finished with 116.5 team points, and only finished behind the host, Pella in the meet. Norwalk came away with two first-place finishes. Their lone first-place finish in a team event was the Distance Medley Relay team of Nate Platner, Cade Campbell, Luke Geyer, and Caden Stumbaugh finished with a time of 3:54.22. In the 3200 meter run, Corbin Oswald placed first with a time of 11:17.42. This meet concludes Norwalk’s regular season.

 

The State-qualifying meet for Norwalk will be Thursday at Johnston.

 

Norwalk Soccer Takes on Dallas Center-Grimes

 

Both of Norwalk’s soccer squads will be in action for a showdown with Little Hawkeye Conference foe Dallas Center-Grimes today.

 

The No. 1 in Class 2A Warriors’ girls will take on the No. 2 in Class 2A Mustangs on the road tonight. Norwalk is coming off their first loss of the season at No. 1 in Class 3A West Des Moines Valley Thursday. The Warriors have yet to lose a Little Hawkeye Conference match this season, and will be going up against the undefeated Mustangs. This will also be a rematch of last year’s state semifinal at Cownie Sports Complex, where Norwalk suffered a season-ending defeat, 1-0.

 

The Warriors’ boys will look to get back in the win column against the Mustangs. Norwalk is coming off losing a non-conference match at Des Moines East Thursday night, 1-0. The Warriors currently sit at 6-8 on the season and 4-1 in Little Hawkeye Conference play. Their lone conference loss this season was at Pella. Norwalk has lost two of the previous three matches with Dallas Center-Grimes, including losing 4-1 last season.

 

The girls’ match at Dallas Center-Grimes gets underway at 7:00 PM, while the boys’ match at home begins at 7:30 PM.
