P.C. Girls Soccer Down Central Iowa United, Boys Outlast Chariton
The Eagles soccer teams each picked up wins Monday, as the P.C. girls defeated Central Iowa United 3-2 at West Marshall. The Pella Christian boys picked up a 2-1 victory hosting Chariton after outlasting the Chargers 4-3 in penalty kicks.
Despite being outshot 13-6 on the night, the Pella Christian girls soccer team made the most of their opportunities. Marina DeCampos got the Eagles on the board early, finding the net just 4:38 into the game, giving her four goals in six shots on goal this season. In the 7th minute, Joslyn Terpstra scored her eighth goal of the year off an assist by Sarah Gritters. Central Iowa United pulled within one at the 17 minute mark, before Esther Ford gave P.C. a 3-1 first half lead off a rebound on a shot that hit the crossbar. CIU would pull back within one at the 67 minute mark in the second half, but Pella Christian would hang on for the final 13 minutes to improve their record to 5-5 on the season.
After a scoreless first half between the Pella Christian and Chariton boys, the Chargers struck first in the second half with a goal at the 50 minute mark. 22 minutes would run off the clock before Benny Schirz cashed in his first career goal on a corner kick from Jack Fancher to tie the match and send it to overtime. Both teams couldn’t find the net in the two overtimes and set the match to penalty kicks. In the shootout, Nathan Brouwer, Aiden Stoltz, Camden Parker, and Fancher each found the net to tripled last season’s win total and improve to 6-6 on the spring.
Both soccer teams will be back in action today against Oskaloosa at 5:30 p.m, with the boys hosting the Indians and the girls traveling to Osky.
