After a record for heat was broken on Monday and Tuesday came close, well-above average conditions will continue through Thursday across south central Iowa. Daytime highs will approach the lower 90s in the afternoon and evening, and humid conditions will remain overnight. According to the National Weather Service, Monday’s high of 90 broke the previous mark of 89 set in 1911. Some of the warmest overnight low temperatures on record remain possible — the previous mark today was 70, set in 2011, and for Thursday, it was 67 set in 1970. The previous record highs for May 11th is 94 set in 1941 and 91 set in 1940.

Scattered thunderstorms remain a possibility late Thursday night, some of which may become severe, however, chances remain hit-or-miss in nature. Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS for the latest weather information.
