Knoxville Girls 7th At SCC Meet; Boys Start Road Back To State In Sectional

Playing without top player Faith Roozeboom due to an injury, the Knoxville Girls Golf Squad placed 7th at the South Central Conference Meet on Tuesday. Isabella Day-Suhr was the low score with a 112. While she did not participate, Roozeboom was nominated and selected all-conference. It is the boys turn to start their road back to the State Meet, and step one will be in their own backyard at Pine Knolls Country Club as the Panthers will host the class 3A sectional. The Panthers are joined today by Bondurant-Farrar, Carlisle, Clarke, Creston, Newton, Saydel and Winterset. After their South Central Conference win on Monday with a 309, the Panthers are looking to shoot something similar and Coach Barry Smith tells KNIA/KRLS Sports they have been working on the short game to bring the scores down.

Smith: “If we can minimize those mistakes, we could see 4-5 shots per player possibly and then we go from a 339 to a 319-325 and that’s where I think we need to be.”

Teams and individuals that advance from today’s sectional will head to the district on Monday at Bos Landen in Pella.

Knoxville Girls Tennis Heads To 1A Regionals At Pella Christian

The Knoxville Girls Tennis Squad will look to qualify players to the State Meet today. However to do that the Panthers will have to take down some of the best players in the area at the class 1A Individual Regional at Pella Christian. The Panthers will be joined along with the host Eagles by Pella, Albia, Centerville, Chariton, Grinnell, Newton, Nevada, Saydel, and Oskaloosa. Coach Nick DeMoss tells KNIA/KRLS Sports regardless of who he decides on singles and doubles today, this regional will be a challenge.

DeMoss: “Doesn’t matter if you go singles or doubles, it’s going to be a gauntlet to go through and you have to decide which gives you the best shot to send someone to state.”

Individuals advancing to state will play at the Waveland Tennis Court in Des Moines June 1st.
