The Marion County Recorder’s Office is reminding people who are looking to purchase an Off-Highway Vehicle or Watercraft of some precautions to take during your purchase. When purchasing your vehicle, make sure that the title has been signed by the seller. If it’s an untitled vehicle/vessel make sure that the previous registration has been signed by the seller, make sure to get a Bill of Sale, and an appointment with the Recorder’s office is required for transferring ownership. It is also important to make sure that the person selling you the vehicle is the owner and has the authority to sell the vehicle. If a seller claims the vehicle/vessel does not have a title, you can call the Recorder’s office to check on the lien, registration, and title history by providing the VIN/HIN.
