The Eagles girls soccer team won in dominate fashion Tuesday night against Oskaloosa, while fatigue caught up with the boys squad in a loss against the Indians. The Pella Christian girls played just 68 minutes before winning via the mercy rule 11-1. The P.C. boys came out on the wrong side of a 4-3 loss.
With their 11 goals yesterday, the Pella Christian girls soccer squad has 28 goals through 11 games. That total surpasses last year’s total of 26 goals in 17 games. Six different Eagles contributed goals on the night, lead by Esther Ford with four and Joslyn Terpstra with three. The Eagles also tied the school record for assists in a game with eight. Terpstra and Claire Winn-Fogle led the team in assists with two apiece. With her 100th save of the season and 340th career save, Lydia Zylstra move up to #3 on the all-time list in school history in both categories. The impressive performance improved P.C’s record to 6-5 on the season.
The Eagles were tied 1-1 at half of the boys match, as Benny Schirz found the net for the second time this season. The Eagles would take the lead early in the second half on a penalty kick from Alejo Marcon. After Oskaloosa tied things up at two shortly after, Theo Hugen pushed P.C. back in front. Osky knotted the game back up at threes 10 minutes later, and then scored the game winner with 8 minutes left off a corner kick. The loss dropped the Pella Christian boys soccer team’s record to 6-7 on the season.
Both Eagles soccer teams will get a couple days to rest before returning to the pitch at Van Meter Friday. The girls soccer match with the #5 ranked Bulldogs is first at 4:30 p.m., followed by the boys game at 6:15 p.m.
